  • [es-pree de less-ka/-iay] (idiom) A witty remark that occurs to you too late, literally on the way down the stairs. The Oxford Dictionary of Quotations defines esprit de l'escalier as, "An untranslatable phrase, the meaning of which is that one only thinks on one's way downstairs of the smart retort one might have made in the drawing room."

Claire, we were in German Village Fri night. We saw/heard David Sedaris at The Book Loft -- one of my favorite little bookstores! Then we had dinner at Lindey's. And now I think that just might be "our place" for drinks and dinner. Great restaurant!

Also -- how cool is German Village? Very, very cool. It just inspires my soul, I gotta tell ya.

Good luck Claire as you move through the thick of it. It's almost over!

Also, the hell hole I allowed my son to go to was called the Stoned Pizza. OMG! I practically held my breath for the two hours he was there. Bad mom. Bad, bad mom!

Nan

Hang in there!
